How many of you who live out in the western suburbs have been watching that MASSIVE new building going up in Seventeen Mile Rocks and wondered what on earth is being built !
Is it an Ikea you may ask, a Bunnings, a Costco ???? ….
Well no its actually a church and its called Riverlife Baptist Church which is set to open its door for it’s first service on July 16th with a grand opening ceremony on August 13th at 2.30pm and we hear via the grapevine there will be food trucks involved !! 🙂
Now although I say this is a new church, this is a church that has actually been around for 50 years as Kenmore Baptist Church. They’ve outgrown their premises over in Kenmore, so have been able to build this new facility over the river, hence the name change.
Ah a new church you may say, and move quietly on if this is not your scene. But wait, we wanted to let you know what these guys are bringing along to our community if you live over in this area.
These guys have so much going on for the whole family. We can’t cover it all, but here’s a snapshot of some of the main things.
So of course they will have Sunday Services
9am and 5pm
The morning service has all the kids programs, while the evening service is more youth focused and noisy (some more mature ones brave it too!) 🙂 😉
During the week they have loads going on
Starting with the littliest of peeps, there is an awesome playgroup called Kidsplay and they meet on a Tues morning at 9.30am, its actually one of the most popular playgroups in the area, so get in touch with them if you’re interested.
As your kiddies get a bit bigger, they have something for them too. All groups are open to anyone in the local community who would like to attend, but feel free to get in touch with the leaders beforehand via the church office to find out more info.
Girls Brigade – is on a Tuesday night for girls 5 -21 years old
Rock – is on Friday nights for boys and girls grades 4-6, they also get dinner for $5. All our Joy kids have loved these youth groups, it has been a highlight of their weeks seeing all their mates and hanging out.
Riverlife Youth – is one of the biggest youth groups in the western suburbs and is a great place for your high school age kids to connect with friends in a safe, fun and positive place. They split into age groups but regularly come together for special events and activities.
And for the young at heart, but maybe not so much in the body, they have Keep Active Classes for those 60+, This group is just $3 for an hour fitness session and is open to the community. This is an awesome way to keep in shape and meet new faces – there’s always plenty of coffee afterwards! 🙂
If any of you are looking for English speaking classes they hold weekly English conversation classes which are offered for anyone wanting to practice their English.
You are likely to see these guys out and about in the community too, as they have a couple of great initiatives going on to help out and bring people together.
Street teams is a fantastic program designed to help people in the area with practical help such as gardening and clearing rubbish. This is a free service, so if you know of someone who may be physically unable to manage some of these jobs, feel free to give them a call.
The Riverlife Coffee cart is a new addition this year, which serves AMAZING barista coffee free of charge 🙂 🙂 what is not to love about that ! Look out for them at local schools, retirement homes, open days, park runs and more.
Riverlife also offers professional counselling services for those times in life when we need a little extra support. You can book a confidential appointment at a competitive rate through their Life Centre.
Phew! That’s lots of info, but as you can see, Riverlife are definitely going to be a massive asset to the community in the western suburbs, and we at Joy are very excited to welcome them our way!
So make sure you check them out, pop in for a visit and say hello
