Neurum Creek Bush Retreat – Camping Holiday

Now we have the perfect spot for all of you out there that love camping or for those of you who would love to try camping and don’t want to buy the gear just yet until you have given it a go.

Neurum Creek Bush Retreat is located in South East Queensland bordering the Mt Mee Forest and is just outside the little township of Woodford. Woodford can cater for any of your needs be it food, refreshments, fuel and restaurants, we even checked out a little antique store. It is about a 75 min drive from Brisbane. Neurum Creek has so many options. You can take your own tent, camper trailer, caravan, motorhome or even a swag or if you like you can turn up and have a tent already pitched for you. (Which I must confess even though we are seasoned campers we chose this option and it was fantastic, they even provide mattresses just bring your own bedding.)

There are powered sites, non-powered sites and you can hire BBQ’s and there are ammenity blocks throughout the camp grounds. The ammenity blocks were very clean and the showers were fantastic, plenty of hot water and great water pressure. Be prepared however for those of you that have not camped before there are no septic tanks and the toilets are drop toilets.

Make sure when you come you bring the kids bikes, our kids rode all day. They have a great system where the kids have to pass a quick little test to get their bicycle licence and then they are allocated a licence number and stickers with the number on them for their bike and helmet. A great idea so if they got lost the staff will know exactly who they are and where they belong. There is also a bike riding path where kids that are 7 and under need to be supervised and kids over 7 can ride freely.

The creek is very kid friendly and the and the water was ankle deep when we were there and running and very clear and clean. The kids were so happy playing in it. You can go further down the creek where the water is deep and canoe, kayak or use a boat which you need to bring with you. Another good tip is to take some walkie talkies. We had them and could keep track of the 13 kids that we took with us and the kids absolutely loved them.

There is plenty of wildlife to spot, the kids found a water snake (which was a keel back and not venomous) and they also tell us that they saw a platypus which are extremely rare to see in the wild.

The bird life is amazing with kingfishers, kookaburras, king parrots, rosellas, magpies and many more.

Now due to the wildlife that lives in the creek there is no fishing. However you can obtain a fishing licence(Click on this link for more info) and drive to lake Somerset to fish.

There are plenty of amazing walking tracks that are designed for leisurely strolls or more adventurous hikes up the mountain, but well worth the hard work to get to the top the views were breathtaking.

There is a general store that has most things you would need if there is anything you have forgotten. Of course there are also ice creams and treats for the kids.

What we loved the most was the campfires. They have camp fires setup on all the sites and you can buy wood from the store. The kids loved being able to have a fire at night and of course roasting marshmallows.

The kids also loved the nightly kids movies they showed and one of the nights we were there there was a great disco for the kids in the shady shelter.

Adults don’t feel left out every morning James’s coffee van arrived for those who needed it and on a Saturday afternoon there was a free wine tasting from one of the local wineries.

The other great hing is the Neurum Creek is a dog friendly park, so no hassles finding someone to look after you dog while you are away bring them along. It is very family friendly and they have a strict no noise policy after 9pm.

We found the staff extremely helpful and were always around if you needed anything. Check in is 1pm and check out is 11am. So if you are thinking of giving it a go we totally recommend Neurum Creek and I can guarantee you will love it. The great thing. If you like you can just come for a day and check out the facilities enforce you decide to camp. If you are going to hire a tent there is really not much you will need, they supply you with a table, two chairs and two bench seats. All you need to take is your bedding. If you have a powered site you can take a couple of plug in lights, and an esky to keep you cold stuff in or a camp fridge. The store sells ice. If you hire a BBQ then you really don’t need to much in the way of cooking equioment. We have a little camp stove that we got from Big W that was really cheap and runs on butane gas cans and is perfect for boiling water for a cuppa, and we made pancakes and scrambled eggs every morning for the kids.

For other camping needs you can check out these places which have everything you could possibly imagine, just click on the links. Anaconda, BCF, Tentworld, Downunder camping, Enoggera Camping, camping Warehouse, Camping Solutions and of course you can always get a great deal on Gumtree.

What made it all worth it for us was how happy our kids were to be playing with their friends and just being outside and playing like all kids should and not missing or wanting screens yahoo!
