There are so many fabulous kindergartens here in the western suburbs of Brisbane, we are spoilt for choice. I have heard from Sarah and the other girls who have moved that we tend to run our kindy’s a little different here in Australia. So if you have just moved from overseas it can be quite confusing.
Most kindy’s are run on a 5 day fortnight with children attending from 8.45am to 2.45pm, which means your little one goes 2 days one week and three days the next. Kindy is attended once the child has turned 3 years. Most kindergartens are under the guidance of either C & K Kindergartens Australia or the Lady Gowrie group. These two groups maintain the standard of the kindergarten and guide the curriculum as well.
In our local area here in the western suburbs we have the following:
These are all within a 10 kilometre radius so as you can see we are spoilt for choice. The kindergarten program is play based with both inside and outside play. New experiences are set up for the children each day and the children also have a little rest time in the afternoons.
All of my children have attended a kindergarten and I feel they have all been well prepared for their first day at prep, they are very social and respond well to group time and teacher instructions. I think this gives them a very good start in the school environment.
Jo here awesome advice ladies thank you. Now I live a little further out at Sinnamon Park so my children went to Jamboree Community Kindergarten and in the same street there is the Centenary Christian Kindergarten my neighbours little boy goes to this one and they just love it. I must say I dropped him off the other day and it looked amazing. They even have 5 IPADS for the classroom. These are two of the main kindy’s used in the centenary suburbs.
Don’t forget that there are also plenty of daycare centres that also now offer kindy program’s for working mum’s that need longer hours. However recently some kindy’s have added outside kindy hours care, so that is something to keep in mind. My kids were so well prepared for prep simply due to being in a kindy environment, our youngest was so sad when she knew she had to leave kindy and go to big school she cried for weeks, she did however move on, and they all have beautiful memories of their time at kindy.
