Kids Sport Brisbane – Netball

Dear Joy Readers

Firstly I need to thank my fabulous Neighbour’s daughter Meg for the information in this blog. I am still a bit of a Newbie, as my daughter has only done NetSetGo. So thanks Meg!!!!

Ok next in our kids sport series we have Netball. Netball is one of those sports that most girls can start at a very early age and progress to the senior ranks from there if they are keen. The Netball season in Australia runs from the end of March through until the end of August with training starting in February.

My daughter who was 6 did a term of NetSetGo last year which was really just starting to teach the kids some basic skills and introduce them to the sport. NetSetGo is for boys and girls and starts at 5 years and goes through until 10 years. To find a NetSetGo club close to you click on the following link.  IF you have any questions about the program click on this link for all relevant information. .

From here they can then progress to Netta which is under 7’s through to under 9’s. Most clubs have a Netta program and you will just need to contact the club to make sure they do run the program. After this they then progress to Juniors (10-17 years) and then Seniors 18+ years.

To get involved all clubs have a sign on day which is happening now so make sure you check the link for the Netball Calendar for sign on deadlines. After this you will then go to a trials day where you are graded and put into divisions which generally are close to your age group.

One you have had your grading you will be placed in a team and your training day will be given to you and of course where you will train, which is generally close to where your club is situated. Once you have a team then a uniform will be organised which is an extra cost to the one fee you pay to register at the beginning of the season.

Now there are plenty of clubs around Brisbane that you can play in, you just need to pick one that is close to home. In the Western Suburbs most clubs play all their competition days at the netball courts at the Western Districts Netball Club at Graceville. Have Fun!!!
