Kids Cricket Brisbane

Hi Joy Friends

Next sport up in this series is cricket. We are playing for the Kenmore Junior Cricket Club this year and this is our first season ever of cricket.

The club starts at super 8’s and goes through to under 12’s which is playing on a concrete wicket covered with turf and then from under 13’s and up games are usually played on a turf wicket. Games that are played on turf will need cricket shoes with spikes. We are playing in the Metropolitan Southwest Junior Cricket (MSW) competition which covers Moggill, Wolston Park, Centenary, Kenmore, Graceville, South Brisbane, Macgregor and Park Ridge areas.

So we had no idea who to play for and then we saw a sign for a sign-on for Kenmore. The process was so easy, we registered and then there were three Saturday’s where all the kids turned up for grading.

The kids were then put into teams according to their ability. After this they ran a few clinics on a Saturday morning and then more clinics in the school holidays. These clinics were all free of charge and were fantastic. It was really great to see the amount of effort and energy being put into the grass roots of the sport by people who are so passionate about teaching the kids.

We are now playing every Saturday morning from around 8.15am – 11.15pm for under 10’s and the boys play for 30 overs and they train once a week. We are also using the Weetbix my cricket app which is awesome and keeps us updated on when, where and who we are playing next, as well as game stats, league ladders and the latest results.

You have a few options for the length of the season.  There is a pre Christmas season which runs from  October  to December and breaks for the Christmas Holidays.  then the post Christmas season runs from February to March.  you can opt to play both of these seasons or only play one.

There are plenty of clubs around you can play for. If you click here it will take you to the Qld Cricket website where if you enter your postcode it will let you know what clubs are in your area.

Blessings
