Kids Sport Brisbane – AFL

Hello Joy peeps

So next sport is AFL ( Australian Football League )

As all boys do our son had played soccer for a few years and he wanted to give something else a go, so he opted for AFL which of course broke his father’s heart as he has played soccer since he was in under 5’s, luckily he loves AFL as well and soon got over the heartbreak.

We played for the Sherwood Magpies and really loved the club. The club starts at juniors and goes all the way through to seniors which is ideal as the kids can stay at the club for as long as they want. The season starts in February and goes through until the end of August. There are no games in school holidays and all games were played at the same time on a Saturday morning, we did have to travel but it was never very far from home. We had a handful of Friday night games mixed throughout the season. Training for us was on a Friday night. At the end of training there was always a BBQ with sausages provided to all players and of course siblings could purchase a sausage, which was always handy, training and dinner all done at the same time. There is a family fun day and presentation day at the end of the season which is always fun.

There are plenty of AFL clubs around, we had friends that played at Kenmore for the Kenmore Bears and loved the club also. If you are interested just get on any of these clubs websites and check out when you can sign up for pre season.

Western Bulldogs Toowong
Forest lake dragons
Ipswich Junior AFC
Morningside Panthers
Greater Springfield Storm
Jindalee Jags
Logan Cobras JAFC

Don’t panic if you don’t know anyone else playing you will be put into a team and it is a great opportunity to meet lots of new friends.

Have fun out there
