Dear Joy Readers
First off a little addition to this blog to proudly announce that Jo’s street actually WON the 4QK neighbourhood street award this year.
Check here for all 4KQ winners this year, so you know the other places that are well worth a visit, but of course no where is as good as Hawk Place, Sinnamon Park 🙂
Ok now you can read on and see how she does it
Not sure if this happens all over the world but if definitely happens here in Brisbane and it is something we look forward to all year. Every year houses and streets all around Brisbane decorate their houses in Christmas lights and some of us enter competitions to see who has the best house or street. Of course you can decorate your house and not enter any competitions, we have decorated ours for the last 13 years and only entered the competition for the first time last year. I am slowly working on Chrissy and Sarah to try and convert them into Christmas light fanatics.
Anyway 4KQ run the competition for Brisbane every year and you can get onto their website and they will give you a list of all the winning categories and a list of all the entrants. if you don’t want to drive around to all these places there are also bus tours that take you that the Brisbane City Council run. don’t forget if you are out and about come to Hawk Place Sinnamon Park and have a look at our awesome street, we came third place last year in the neighbourhood category
Now for all of you out there who have arrived and had to leave all your beautiful lights behind then never fear there are plenty of places around where you can purchase more.
For all your standard fairy lights, icicles, nets and rope lights in different colours and lengths you will find these at Bunnings and Masters which are hardware stores as well as Big W, K Mart, Target, Myer and David Jones.
If you are like us and need something a little bigger and better, then you can’t beat Christmas Alight at Everton Hills.
Tim and His wife Margaret run this store during the Christmas season and you will find everything you need. we have been coming here for years and not only do they supply you with just about everything imaginable they have plenty of amazing advice for hanging and protecting your lights so they last as long as possible. In actual fact this store is just a hobby for Tim as his full-time job is a garden landscapers. The store is now open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am-3pm until Christmas Eve and closed Monday and Tuesday but they will open by appointment.
They will also be open on Boxing Day obviously with plenty of sale items probably a good one not to miss. They have an online store that is open all year round and they also ship worldwide. If you have questions check out their website or Tim is more than happy to chat to you and you can contact him on
0413 449 984. Tim is a wealth of knowledge as he has decorated his average property for years which was truly magical but sadly last year was his last year, but it is worth chatting to him to tap into all of his fabulous ideas.
