Hi Joy Friends
When you move to beautiful Brisbane it can be hard knowing where to go on a beautiful day just for a simple trip out, that doesn’t require a great deal of preparation and here in Brisbane we are so blessed to have the gorgeous Southbank Parkland !
There is so much there thats its hard to even know where to start to tell you.
Along the river banks of our beautiful city is an area called Southbank, this was original home to the world expo in 1988 that was then transformed in 1992 to become the Southbank Parkland area .
Now this area is just alive with so much vibrancy and life that you can’t help but fall in love with it whether you are there in winter, spring summer or autumn. There are restaurants just tripping over themselves to serve you all manor of yummy food , icecream shops and coffee shops , fine dining to a slice of pizza .
We love to go out of an evening either as a couple or as a family and just go and see what we can find food wise , Little Stanley Street and Grey Street have some awesome places, and the restaurants on River Quay have the best river views of any in the city, and keep watching this space for upcoming reviews of these restaurants . Southside dinner on Little Stanley Street is a fun one for us, as it has some of the food we love from our days back in Georgia in the USA . Or there is fifth element we have blogged about before and Popole to name a just a tiny fraction of them , actually think there is a challenge there for us Joy girls to get out and try them all for you , I know how selfless we are 🙂
There are swimming pools and playgrounds . The wheel of Brisbane, and quiet grassy areas with deck chairs for snoozing in the afternoon away .
The pool is so much fun in summer and it even is patrolled which is great . We again love to pop down there of a summers evening for ice cream and a stroll along the river ( lets be honest here, our son isn’t so much into the strolling but he certainly loves the chance to accidentally go for a swim ?!?!? 🙂 )
There is art and music just bursting out of so many buildings with the Lyric theatre and GOMA and the science museum as well as the convention centre . And we get some of the best shows here in Brisbane check out their website for more details of what’s on and coming up
There are bike paths and walking paths , boogonvilla lined arches to stroll through and just take a deep breath at the beauty of the dappled sunshine shimmering through . Check out Jos blog for her bike riding adventures around here 🙂
There are people from all walks of life strolling around enjoying all that is on offer in this beautiful place , from those on an exercise mission to those seeking a quiet shaded corner to curl up with a sandwich and a book for an 1hr .
We have loved just packing a picnic somedays and coming down and finding a quiet spot and just enjoyed the multi colours of life laid out in all its beauty in inner city Brisbane
On the weekend this place is buzzing with street performers and music , markets and food stalls . There are open air concerts with the Sunday sessions put on and exercise classes organised , movies and shows and the list goes on and on !
Have no fear we’ll go back ( you see just for you guys we do these things ! 😉 ) as the collective markets are awesome , there are arts and crafts, clothes and food, all along Greys street
so if you have a free couple of hrs make sure you get to know this beautiful part of our city and once you go once know that you will be back time and time again 🙂
Get out there and enjoy this beautiful city
The Joy Girls xx
