The 5 Areas to Maximise Your Linkedin SEO

The 5 Areas to Maximise Your LinkedIn SEO (326)

Recently, I worked with a financial planner. This client specialised in retirement planning in Brisbane.

The first and one of the most important steps was to identify and research keywords for his SEO. Gravitate Online reported that 94% of web visitors don’t go beyond the first page of their search results.

We thought about his ideal clients and words they would use to find people like him. We needed to build the profile around keywords his ideal audience would use – not industry-specific buzz words.

It’s a bit like if you do a google search for a beach resort in Queensland, you don’t expect to see a farm stay in Victoria.

There are five areas that will contribute to the search engine optimisation of your profile. These include your:

Title: You have 120 characters to work with for your title and it needs to align your keywords.

Summary:  The summary is a key component of your LinkedIn profile. The summary positions you for your target audience. It offers a great opportunity to include keywords, validation and a strong call to action.

Employment history: You can use up to 2000 characters for each position you’ve held in this space.

Skills and endorsements: You might be endorsed for things you’ve never heard of before or by people you’ve never met, but these still carry weighting in the search results.

Recommendations:  Although you might need to help people write recommendations for you they are a high priority on your profile.

It is important to note that keywords are based on your goals moving forward and may not directly reflect what you are doing at the moment. Blog posts also contribute to search engine optimisation, as well as being returned in search results with your name, headshot and headline.

By understanding and maxamising his SEO this client was in the position to attract his ideal client through his LinkedIn profile.
